Happy Thursday! We cannot believe it is already the middle of August....so much has happened in the last few weeks and we cannot wait to update ya'll!!
Today is Thursday, August 16th. While it might be an ordinary day for any one of you, this day holds a special place in our hearts. Today was Owen's original due date! Unlike parents of full-term babies, we were blessed with Owen's arrival 83 days early! With days full of smiles, tears, and laughter, this journey has been one that we are forever grateful for.
After spending 62 days in the NICU, we got to bring Owen home with us on July 26th! Such an incredible feeling it is to have our little miracle at home with us!
As I mentioned in the previous post, Owen had to complete two final tests before they would discharge him from the NICU. On Tuesday, July 24th, Owen was hooked up for his sleep study. He was monitored for 10 hours straight without demonstrating any episodes, proving that he was ready to move on to the next test: the carseat study. He was a rockstar in his carseat!! Vince and I anxiously awaited the results of both studies all day, and found out at 4:00 p.m. that our little warrior would be coming home. The hospital gives you the option to room-in, which is something Vince and I had both decided we wanted to take advantage of. What is rooming in, you ask? As a family of 3, you get to stay overnight in the NICU. They have two hotel room like suites located just outside the doors of the actual unit. Your baby is brought into the suite with you, where you stay as a family for the night. A nurse is still assigned to you and will check in every 6-8 hours to make sure things are going well and that there are no questions. As luck would have it for us, the nurse we were blessed with on our discharge night was the same nurse that admitted Owen. We are forever grateful for Heidi, as she was there to hold our hands throughout this entire journey, explaining all that was happening and caring for our sweet boy as though he was her own. So we roomed in on Wednesday night, and after a final check-up from the doctor, got to take Owen home Thursday afternoon!!!!!
Owen's first car ride with mommy and daddy!!
We have been having the time of our lives with Owen at home! We chose to keep it very quiet for the first couple of days, so we could just enjoy our son.
Upon being discharged, Owen weighed 5 lbs, 8 oz. I took him to the pediatrician on Tuesday and he is up to 6 lbs, 2.5 oz!
Such a big boy!!
And now?! We are experiencing all of the joys that come with being a parent! Owen is quite the night owl and loves to party when the rest of the world is sleeping! He hasn't learned yet that you can't be soarin' with the eagles if you are hootin' with the owls! In due time... :) These sleepless nights just mean more cuddling time with our little one.
We cannot believe 3 weeks have already passed! The days have flown by and there is still lots to catch you up on. In a nutshell, Meema came back into town for almost a week, Aunt Kitty and Uncle Ross bought a new house, Aunt Chloe and Uncle Pat got engaged, and Aunt Molly and Uncle Matt bought a house!! *And baby boy Klawitter is due within the next 4 weeks!!*
I will update in greater detail this weekend-I promise! For now, we will leave you with a few more pictures of our perfectly handsome Owen.
New ad campaign, Louis?!
Thank you so much for continuing to keep us in your thoughts and prayers! We are more grateful than you will ever know. Sending hugs and kisses to each of you!
xoxo,
The Jamisons
